Chapter Twenty-Three

A Special and Needed Ally

The Unicorn put on some classical music and a television in another room and smiled again. She looked over to Doc and looked into his eyes. She said that the Professor looked to her like a scholar and she would guess that he was quite an accomplished one at that. However, as she turned her sight to the Professor, who had smiled at her statement, she said that Doc was a much different man. He, she stated, was very amiable but also quite adroit. Doc leaned forward and said that she was generally correct on both counts.

She then looked at them both again and said that she was born with some very unusual traits that had separated her from the vast majority of normal people.

She paused and then looked at Doc directly and said that his near future was connected to the N.K. leader in a very intimate way. She said that she could not see the result of the encounter now but was quite sure it would happen. The Professor sat back and watched her. She said that their mutual friend was also a very special person and that the Professor was supposed to “be with her” as part of his fate. She said that the Professor and their friend would live long lives but it was not so clear if the same applied to Doc.

Doc asked the woman how well she was connected to the N.K. supreme leader. She said that she was one of his favorites, fully trusted by the regime and very close to his family. She was in fact one of his favorite concubines. She had known him since she was a very little girl and grew up with him during their youth and into their adulthood. He also considered her to be one of his closest advisers and periodically talked with her on various topics.

Doc asked her what her true personal feelings about him were. She said that on the inside, she hated him because he had her mother and father, as well as her younger brother, all executed when she was a young girl. She prayed quietly every day that she could one day hear that he had been executed as well, but ideally very slowly.

The Professor asked if she would be willing to travel with Doc. She slowly nodded.

Once back on base, Doc met with the SOF commander and then with each one of his troops individually. Doc told the commander in private that he sincerely appreciated his and his teammates who were all in for this mission. He asked if he and the team had already been briefed. The commander said yes, and they were ready to go on the “fight night” at Doc’s say-so.

Doc looked directly to the commander and said, “Excellent, because the mission is literally a go right now.”

The commander’s orders were to depart this date at dark for insertion behind the enemy’s lines at a location and via an aircraft that he, the commander, saw fit.
